A recent survey conducted by Insure.com identified the most and least expensive vehicles to insure. Here’s the rundown of what might either set you back or give you a sweet deal.

Cheapest Vehicles to Insure

On the low end of the list, here are the cheapest vehicles to insure:

  1. Chrysler Voyage
  2. Honda CR-V LX
  3. Mazda CX-3 Sport
  4. Fiat 500X Trekking
  5. Honda HR-V LX

A minivan grabbed the top spot of least expensive vehicles to insure. The rest of the list was made up of utility vehicles. The national average annual premiums range between $1272 and $1322 for these vehicles.

Experts say many of these vehicles are loaded with safety features, they have parts that are readily available when repairs are needed, and have good ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

Most Expensive Vehicles to Insure

  1. Maserati Quattroporte S GranSport
  2. Maserati Ghibli S Q4 GranSport
  3. Tesla Model S Performance (Plaid)
  4. Tesla Model X Performance (Plaid)
  5. BMW M760i xDrive

A pair of Maseratis grabbed the top two spots of most expensive vehicles to insure. The Quattroporte, at number one, has a $112,000 price tag. Those were followed by the Tesla Model S Performance and Tesla Model X Performance. The BMW M760i xDrive rounded out the top five. The national average annual premiums range between $4,823 and $3,914 for these vehicles.

The reason for such high insurance price tags? Experts say the vehicles on this list are highly desirable by car thieves, they have higher repair and replacement costs, and they tend to attract some buyers who drive aggressively, driving up the price for everyone else.
